This Flick In Brief
There's very little about Bad Lieutenant to warm the heart. In fact, if the viewer is any kind of sane, they'll be glad when it ends. But that's just a testament to the film's weight and Harvey Keitel's delivery. With drug addiction, prostitution, extortion, robbery, and rape as the film's substance, Keitel took on a role few actors would dare to attempt. As his character sinks into near-oblivion, Ketiel's delivery is powerful enough to inspire loathing, and even sympathy.
Not for the fainthearted, Bad Lieutenant is more for those who appreciate a man's battle with personal demons.
