This Flick In Brief

On the heels of his Lord Of The Rings adventures, Viggo Mortensen jumps into the saddle to run a harrowing horse race across the Arabian desert on a longshot mustang, named Hidalgo.

An ambitious film with an old-school style, Hidalgo throws in everything and the kitchen sink. Cowboys, American Indians, racing stallions, desert landscapes, Arabian royalty, subterfuge, danger, and competition all intermix in a film that would be more at home in the 1940s rather than 2004.

Although based in 1890 with the central character being a 'cowboy', Hidalgo isn't so much a 'western' as it is a true adventure movie worth seeing.
