This Flick In Brief
Director Martin Scorsese (Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, The Departed, Gangs of New York), constructs a dazzling and epic tale of the early life of billionaire eccentric Howard Hughes, covering his dashing forays into Hollywood and the aviation industry from the 1920s to the 1940s. Showcasing movie stars of the era, politics, aviation pioneering, and Hughes' eventual descent into madness, The Aviator rightfully garnered 11 Academy Award nominations.
As with most biopics, Scorsese took liberties with the timeline and the sequence of events in Hughes' life, but those factual deviations are easily overlooked. Complete with one of the best ensemble casts assembled in recent years, and meticulous in its recreation of the vehicles, architecture, decor, dress, and culture of the period, every frame of the The Aviator is an absolute joy to watch.
