This Flick In Brief
Putting fun back into science fiction, The Fifth Element is a dazzling ride of possibly every ingredient ever thrown into a film, ever. Good and evil, humor, costumes, opera, space travel, romance, a futuristic setting, flying cars, cab drivers, gangsters, priests, mercenaries, industrial tycoons, gunfights, superhero aliens, and one of the coolest soundtracks ever made are just some of the film's ingredients.
The type of film that just needs to be taken for what it is and nothing more, almost every measure of quality becomes meaninglessness when recommending it. Plot points, acting skills, cinematography, storylines, they're all irrelevant as the film is just so dazzling, fast-paced, and humorous that it's hard not to like it. Good-natured and fun, The Fifth Element is science fiction that even non-fans of science fiction will probably like.
Of special note is the brilliance of actor Gary Oldman, who proves once again to be one of the best character actors of his generation.
