This Flick In Brief

A gritty 1970s film that's withstood the test of time, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three is old-school filmmaking at its finest.

With most scenes centered between a hijacked New York City subway car and the Transit System control room, the film relies heavily on just the force of the cast to pull it through, and it does. The interplay between hijackers, hostages, and negotiators are some of the best ever put on film.

Of special note is simply the historical experience of seeing New York City in the 1970s, with giant Plymouth Fury police cars, the absence of cell phones, and hardwired light panels that were state-of-the-art control systems at the time.
