This Series In Brief
Monty Python's brilliant John Cleese created this series in the mid-70s with his then-wife Connie Booth. Based on the fictional Fawlty Towers hotel in Torquay England, the series ran for twelve episodes over two seasons on the BBC, before Cleese and Boothe retired the show (and their marriage) and Cleese went on to other things.
The series follows hapless hotel owner Basil Fawlty (Cleese), his wife Sybil (Prunella Scales), the hotel maid (Booth), and the English-impaired Manuel (Andrew Sachs) as they deal with irate guests, Fawlty's scheming, Sybil's temper, and Manuel's terrible language translations. Rich with slapstick, dry humor, and brilliant English wit, Fawlty Towers has survived through the years as a television gem whose run was much too brief.
