This Series In Brief
Another great HBO miniseries, Generation Kill follows the 1st Recon Marines across the Iraqi deserts and into Baghdad during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. Like most HBO offerings, the series is short on fluff and cliches while heavy on grit and realism, giving a warts-and-all look at America's front line military men.
Well-paced, often humorous, excellently shot, and well-acted, Generation Kill paints an excellent portrait of the modern fighting man. At the same time being gung-ho for cause and country, the soldiers in Generation Kill are almost proud of their jaded point of view, while acknowledging the ridiculousness of their job and their role in world events. Definitely worth watching for any kind of war movie fan.
