This Series In Brief

The most expensive nature series ever commissioned by the BBC, (and also the first to be filmed in high definition), this joint production with networks from Canada, Japan, and the United States is a masterpiece of documentary filmmaking. Covering mountains, deserts, jungles, oceans, and everything in between, the series lives up to its name with fascinating subject matter, breathtaking cinematography, and thoughtful narration.

Being a joint production, there are multiple versions of narration available for this series, with broadcaster and naturalist Sir David Attenborough on the U.K. version, and actress Sigourney Weaver (Alien, Galaxy Quest, Ghostbusters) on the U.S. version. Most people tend to care for Attenborough's proper English style over Weaver's, but both are intelligent and compelling.
