Debuting in 1990 to little hype or fanfare, Seinfeld would later become a staple blockbuster hit on NBC that would last most of the decade. With its premise being (what its writers called) 'a show about nothing', Seinfeld covers the life of comedian Jerry Seinfeld and his eccentric neighbors and friends, as they simply go through life in New York City from one funny scenario to the next. With little real plot, direction, or overall purpose, Seinfeld stresses the 'situational' in 'situational comedy', as even the most mundane and meaningless events end up as comedic material. Going to the movies, buying a suit, eating lunch, it's all open game for the show's talented writers and cast.

Although a smash hit with audiences and a cultural staple of the 1990s, Seinfeld still leaves some people flat, who just don't get its New York comedic style. Heavy with nihilism, neuroticism, obsessive-compulsive behavior, and eccentric characters, its one of those things the viewer either loves or can't be bothered with.
