The Nitty-Gritty:

Q: What does this do?

A: This remedies the problem identified in Windows 7 64-bit, where Excel 2007 spreadsheets do not open with the error "There was a problem sending the command to the program"

How To Do It:

Do the following:

  • Bring up the Excel options (hit the round circle in the upper left of the program, then hit the "Excel Options" button), click on "Advanced" on the left column, then scroll down to the "General" section.
  • Make sure that "Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)" is not checked.

That's it.
